Team Meeting Recap – 12/10/18

Thanks to everyone who joined us for the team meeting at East Ridge on Monday evening. We covered a lot of important information, which is summarized below. Please do not hesitate to reach out to Alex Carlson if you have any questions:

1) Registration Update

Over two thirds of the team has completed registration! That still leaves a few who have not yet – be sure to visit the Sowashco FeePay page to get registered as soon as possible!

Earlier today each student was sent a Google Sheet with their contact information and details about which steps of registration have been completed and which fees have been paid. Please bookmark this sheet as it will be updated every week!

Review your Google Sheet to confirm the contact information is correct, and the registration and fees are accurate. If you did not receive a link to your Google Sheet, or if you have questions about anything it contains, please contact Alex.

2) Team Sweatshirts

The team sweatshirts have been designed and are ready to be ordered. The captains shared the pictures at the team meeting and will be handling the orders. Here is a look at the sweatshirts the captains designed:

Gray crew neck sweatshirt with “Speech Ridge” on front, “We are the future” on back.

The cost per sweatshirt is $35.00. Checks can be made payable to “East Ridge Speech.”

To order a sweatshirt, please complete this Google Form by Friday, December 21st.

3) Marshall Tournament

On Friday, January 25th the East Ridge Speech team will be heading to Marshall, Minnesota for the Marshall Speech Spectacular. This is a two-day Speech tournament with some of the best competition in the Midwest. Complete details about the tournament were handed out at the meeting on Monday and can be found online.

The cost to attend this tournament is $90.00 per student which includes transportation in a coach bus, hotel, and a pasta dinner on Friday night.

Permission slips are due by Friday, January 11th.

4) Stock in Talk

Stock in Talk is a fundraiser we do every year where students send letters to friends and family with the offer to buy “Stock” in you as a speaker. At the end of the season they will receive a “dividend report” updating on the season and how the student they sponsored did.

Any money raised from this fundraiser will be put into a student’s individual account, which can be applied to travel this season. Any excess money raised will go to support the team’s general fund.

Students were given blank envelopes and copies of the Stock in Talk letter at the team meeting. Each student who wishes to participate should address the envelopes to friends/relatives/anyone and sign the bottom of each letter. Then these can be turned into Mrs. Carlson’s room. Please do not seal the envelopes! We will provide stamps for the letters and a return envelope.

Any student who missed the meeting can pick up letters and envelopes from Mrs. Carlson’s room or print the letter from this link.

5) Chanhassen Snowvitational

Several varsity students will be competing at the Chanhassen Snowvitational this Saturday and Sunday at Chanhassen High School and novices or non-competing varsity are welcome to come and watch. If you are planning to come and need transportation, please let Alex know so we can calculate if there’s room in the available vehicles.

6) Other Reminders

  • There will be an all-team workshop during winter break on Saturday, December 29th at Central Park in Woodbury.
  • Judge training for parents is on Wednesday, January 9th.
  • Everyone should plan to be memorized by the mock tournament on January 12th. Work with your coach to make sure you’re setting deadlines to ensure you’re ready by then.
